The best female chess players in the world are often overshadowed by their male counterparts.
In the early 2000s, a group of women began a rivalry with each other over who was the greatest.
After a long, heated competition, the winner of the most recent tournament in 2005 was crowned the grandmaster of the world’s best women’s chess team.
But in recent years, the spotlight has moved to other female chess champions.
In 2018, the world champion, Fabiano Caruana, became the first woman to reach the semifinals of a grandmaster tournament, winning a match against the reigning world champion.
In 2017, the best female player in the game, Anna Pashina, became a three-time World Chess Champion after a match with the reigning champion.
And in 2018, world number one Hikaru Nakamura was crowned as the best player in history by the world chess governing body.
So who is the best chess player of all-time?
The following list includes the best male players in chess history.
