New Delhi, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) — Russian chess legend Alexander Radmanov, who was recently named one of the top 100 chess players in the world by the website Chess.com, will visit India to participate in a chess tournament in India next month, Indian media reported Friday.
According to The Times Of India, Radmanovich will be participating in the second round of the chess tournament held by the Indian Chess Federation (ICSF), where the top 50 players of the world will be selected.
The tournament will be held in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
According the report, Radmans visit to India was expected after a successful first day of his visit to the state in September.
According Russia’s official chess website, Radmenov is currently ranked fifth in the global rankings of the game.
In a statement, a spokesman for the ICSF said, “As we do not have a precise date, we can only confirm that Alexander Radmans scheduled visit to Indian Chess Union was approved for this week and he will play in the next chess match on the 28th.”
The Russian chess star was recently appointed as a member of the board of governors of the Indian Federation of Chess (IFCC) for the first time, and has also been given the prestigious title of “General Secretary of the IFC.”
